Westoe Brass Band, along with all the other bands competing at the Durham League entertainment contest has been asked to ungrade its Public Liability Insurance to the sum of £5,000,000 (in writing five million pounds). This amout has been requested by Durham County Council who need to see copies of public liability insurance for each band performing. It is a bit of a puzzle as to how a Judge could award £5,000,000 to a claimant for 3rd party damages against a brass band, your suggestions will be published. To the best knowledge of the committee no band has ever needed its public liability insurance, yet we do have a policy for £1,000,000 just to be covered. Westoe Brass Band and all the other Brass Bands attending the DLI are self-funding voluntary groups and need funds for instrument repairs, uniforms, coach hire etc. and has better things to spend limited funds on.
