This weekend Westoe Colliery Band led the Mayors Parade from the town hall to Saint Hilda's Church in South Shields. The band led South Tyneside's new Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Tom Pigott and his wife Alma, as they headed the annual Mayor's Sunday Parade and Service. Up to 200 civic dignitaries and guests including Mayors and Mayoresses from across the region and representatives from uniformed organisations marched from South Shields Town Hall to St Hilda's Church in the Market Place for the service conducted by Canon Peter Stannard. Westoe Colliery Band led the parade, which also included the Living Waters Youth Band, the Girls Venture Corp and Durham Light Infantry members. The Mayor said: "Mayor's Sunday gives us a chance to reflect upon the things we would like to achieve during our year of office and ask for a blessing on the work of the Mayor's office and the local authority."
